Hi, we took delivery of a 2008 Carriage Cameo and we got delayed at the dealership as we encountered problems with one of the slides. That got fixed and we were then late leaving by a day. We needed to be back at Pecan Park in San Marcos by the Sunday night as we were given an extra day off on the Sunday so we did need to be back Sunday to restart work on the Monday.
The 1st day I drove 400 miles and finished up driving just after 6pm, we were now in sight of getting back on schedule. We did arrive back in San Marcos around 1pm on the Sunday and traffic was only very bad in the Austin area, but then again traffic is nearly always bad in that area, I think it’s because four lanes down to 2 lanes plus lots of traffic.
We parked our new RV in overflow and stayed in our friendly Hitchhiker for the next 4 days when we planed on transferring our possessions over from the Hitchhiker to the Cameo. Sadly the rain came down and as the Cameo was in overflow and the area became a mess of water and mud, not a good idea to drive a truck nor do the transfer. We did eventually start and what I thought would take us a day or maybe 2 days took us 3 days. The reason was not so much the STUFF we had but we quickly discovered that our internal storage in the Cameo was about 25% less so we needed to plan and rethink our contents. The good side of this is that we have an increase of about 50% under the RV so we needed to do a rethink and that will be an on going process for a few weeks as we adapt.
We really like the new RV and love the surround sound it’s awesome almost like being in a theater.
Internally as we now have 4 slides makes the overall dimensions very large and the majority of more room is in the kitchen and living area. The ceiling is also higher as we now have a ceiling fan and the ceiling is 12’ 8” an extra 2’ of height, must make a note of this when going under low bridges.
We start our new work schedule on the 1st of December as Activity Directors and also we will be cleaning all the bathrooms/laundry rooms plus the two cabins, this will give us far more flexibility and freedom as apart from the activities when we will have specific times the cleaning times are flexible and for once the bathrooms will be cleaned to a high standard as the previous non cleaners did a pathetic job, I called them Non cleaners because that is exactly what they did non clean.
All for now and the Hitchhiker is up for sale so we’ll see how long it takes for that to sell, it’s in very good condition as I always washed and cleaned it on a regular basis.
Have fun and stay warm.
