On recommendations from Erik, Lazy Longhorn’s owner, we headed out yesterday to explore the Riverside Park here in Victoria. Much to our surprise and delight, it is one of the nicest and largest parks I have been in anywhere.

On recommendations from Erik, Lazy Longhorn’s owner, we headed out yesterday to explore the Riverside Park here in Victoria. Much to our surprise and delight, it is one of the nicest and largest parks I have been in anywhere.

The park includes a zoo, baseball fields, picnic areas and a golf course. It has many places where you can park and walk or ride bicycles. We parked by a tree that I found fascinating. This picture doesn’t quite do it justice but should give an idea of its unusual structure. In the background, if you have good eyes, you can just see a golf cart.

The main feature that interested us yesterday was the Guadalupe river that winds around the edge of the park. It is quite large; large enough for boats and has a fairly rapid current.

Sammy loves swimming so we looked for a place he could get into and out of the water safely. As we approached the water’s edge, still not sure if it would be safe for him with the current, he dashed past us and plunged into the water. Fortunately, the water was fairly calm there and he was able to get in and out easily.

Here are a couple more photos to give you an idea of the size of the river.
