It’s now 1 week since our shipment was picked up in Panama. Everything was supposed to be shipped on the same plan we flew on but when has anything ever been exactly as promised in Panama?


It’s now 1 week since our shipment was picked up in Panama. Everything was supposed to be shipped on the same plan we flew on but when has anything ever been exactly as promised in Panama?

When I called Continental about shipping some items, they told me the only way to do it is to use a shipping agent. When I called the agent, he told me that if the items were picked up before noon they would be shipped the following day and would be ready to be picked up in Houston the day after that.

What REALLY happened is that the shipment left Panama on Wednesday, not Tuesday and we STILL don’t have the items. I’ve been calling every day for updates and first it was a customs hold and now it is a USDA hold on our goods. There is nothing we can do but sit and wait till the powers that be decide to let our things go free.

I really doubt if there actually was a customs hold because later I was told that because we are not using an agent on this end we will have to clear the items through customs ourselves. It sounds simple. Let’s just hope it actually is. Supposedly all we have to do is take some paperwork from Continental to the customs office. They then do whatever it is they do and give us another paper to take back to Continental who will then release the shipment.

My only concern is for the fragile items. If they carelessly unpack or repack them things could be broken. The main concern is for Grandmother’s lamp and my expensive mirror for kaleidoscopes.
